It's always tricky to portray a concept. This one is an attempt to convey the duality of humankind and how our sinful nature is still there seeking evil, while the redeemed spirit filled side seeks the good...
Tricky indeed, especially when it is difficult to grasp in the first instance. How does Jesus transform us by His Spirit from one dead in sin to one eternally alive in Him? I know He does it, but I don't know how
Perhaps that's the hardest part. Not so much the portrayal, but the initial visualization. Being eternally alive yet struggling with the sin, it's easy to forget that our very struggling is a sign that we are alive in Christ. A corpse doesn't give much of a fight... (or so I'm told :-) )
